Time Capsule

Posted in rambling on August 19th, 2008 by Zach

Bought Lain a new Mac Mini yesterday.  Her original one was dying on her and was well out of the Apple Care coverage.  Used the migration for the first time.  Worked beautifully.  All apps and setting transferred over, no down time once System Update was run…she was off and running.

Picked up a 1TB Time Capsule as well.  With 2 new 10.5 machines in the house figured it was a good time to centralize back up.  Unplugged the old Airport Extreme, plugged in the Time Capsule, set up the wireless nextwork with the same settings and all was well.  No fuss from the wireless clients (aside from the setup downtime).   My only complaint, it puts a generic removable drive icon on the desktop of the machines being backed up to it.  On my laptap, which uses a external hard drive at work for Time Machine, it has a nice “Time Machine Backups” icon.  Petty, maybe, but it’s good to know at a glance which drives I can and should remove and which I shouldn’t.

iPhone Firmware Update

Posted in rambling on August 12th, 2008 by Zach

The 2.0.1 update seemed to resolve the problems I was having with a couple of apps.  Very happy the Auroa Feint works again.  Disappointed in the App Store process though.  Apparently the update for Auroa Feint was submitted 3 days before it finally showed up at the store.  Now, I’m all for QA, trust me, but when apps like I’m Rich (or whatever it was called..the $999 app that 8 people bought) can show up, and a much need update to a very popular app gets queued like that, something is wrong.

iPhone fun

Posted in rambling on August 1st, 2008 by Zach

Lately I’ve been having some problems with various iPhone apps.  Crashing, crashing, and more crashing.  At first it was just one app that was doing it.  Checked the forums, other people having similar problems, various work around attempts and the such.  Then, as I downloaded more apps, it started occurring more often.  I fear the 2.0 firmware is the cause.  I really want these things to work.  It’s an amazing platform.  Need the 2.1 firmware to come faster.  Go, go Apple devs!

Woopra

Posted in rambling on July 30th, 2008 by Zach

Installed the Woopra script here.  Playing with the software.  Pretty damn cool.  I could see it getting insane on sites that get a ton of hits.

In other news, finally going to see Batman tonight.

Weekend update

Posted in rambling on June 23rd, 2008 by Zach

Back at work, decompressing brain right now.  Good time for a post.  Okay weekend.  Lain had another belt graduation.  She’s Orange/Yellow now.  Since she’s in the Black Belt Club, it also has a black stripe.  Very cool looking.  She’s loving it.  She gets to hit stuff.  She gets to scream.  What else does an kid need??

Mother-in-law was in town again this weekend.  I swear, we see her more now than we did when she lived here.  It’s awful.  She drives her kids crazy.  I try my best to be “busy” when she’s here.  Played a lot of WoW, went out for wings, kept focus away from her.  I’d feel bad for abandoning Em with her, but since she was conveniently in Florida last time she was down and I had to put up with her for two nights, there was no guilt at all.

Doc appt today.  Having some skin checked out.  Living in the land of the Sun, skin cancer is always a concern.  Better to check now than later…

Hosting

Posted in rambling on June 11th, 2008 by Zach

Had a post, disappeared. Hosting seems slow. Need to watch it here. Luckily, I’m the only one watching these right now.

Update:  Not dropping WoW anytime soon.  Have free time until November.  I think they did this on purpose.

Celtics and MMOs

Posted in rambling on June 9th, 2008 by Zach

Watching Game 2 of the Lakers/Celtics Finals.  Damn, this game is much easier to watch than game 1.  I really like that Leon Powe character.  I thought he looked familiar but couldn’t place him until the mentioned that he played at Cal.  Hell of a player, hell of a story.

Now, as I watch this game, I ponder another game, or games as it may be.  It’s my addiction to MMORPGs.  I think I need to let my various accounts expire for a couple months to detox.  Especially with my re-entry into grad school.  Going to need all the focus I have in me.  Plus, a break will do me well.

Testing

Playing with widgets and such. Not sure I like them with this layout. Need to play more. Want a twitter widget, but the reload on this setup looks horrible.

Odd

Posted in rambling on May 30th, 2008 by Zach

Taking Wed and Thurs off during a short week to watch Lain has really thrown my inner calendar for a loop.  Today feels nothing like a Friday.  In fact, I was looking forward to tomorrow being new release Tuesday.  Doh.
